Ride for Freedom!

Escape the predictable routine of your everyday... and ride into the two-wheeled adventure of a lifetime!

Strange sights... remote lands... Experience an extravaganza of Asian sensory overload, whilst blazing a trail for the liberation of children trapped in the sex trade. Extend your personal horizons... and make a significant difference in the lives of the enslaved and broken.

Throttle up the FREEDOM, as you ride through parts of Thailand, trail across Laos' rugged mountain terrain, then nudge into Burma – your journey will bring awareness to the plight of children trapped in sexual bondage, while raising funds for their rescue and rehabilitation.

Engage with new environments: a rudimentary culture, spicy curries and scrumptious stir fries, twangy tones, and the wonderfully unique people who call the infamous Golden Triangle, “home”.

Your tour begins in Chiang Rai - Destiny Rescue's base, and unravels along 2000 kms of tar and dirt - encompassing both the stunning and bizarre! Wind, dust, the occasional downpour, and sun drenched valleys, are all woven throughout this experience.

We will be pursuing an arresting scenic route, cruising through bamboo villages and rustic roadside communities, which will offer a smorgasbord of unforgettable photo opportunities! The landscape boasts a vibrant diversity of lush rice paddies, settled amongst rising limestone cliff faces, exotic forests and roughly cultivated farmland.

We have even integrated a fun three-hour speedboat ride upriver, from Luang Prabang to Pakbeng, where you will take in the fascinating sights of life on the Mekong. Add some hardcore miles through corkscrew winding stretches, traversing mountainous landscapes, and you have catalogued yourself memories for a lifetime!

Ride

Feb 4th - 15th 2012 • 3 Countries • 2000klms... & lives changed forever!

This is a bike touring adventure with ONE MAJOR DIFFERENCE to all other bike tour operators. We are not doing this to make a profit for an individual or business. We are a non profit organisation, that exists to rescue children from the sex industry and help them find a new life of freedom. This ride has been created as a means to raise the much needed funds to keep the rescue teams searching for the young, the trapped...the helpless. With your support (and your tour dollars) we can together embark upon a wonderful and exciting adventure - and help stem the trafficking of young girls at the same time. Do more with your hard earned money than just pour it into another man’s pocket... Join the ‘Ride 2 End Slavery’ and see your money go further than you ever thought possible... towards making a better life for these little ones. Ride Itinerary (October 2012)

This itinerary is intended as a guide only. Everything is subject to change at anytime without notice. All distances and times mentioned are approximate only because the road and weather conditions can change without warning. Also times indicated for travell may vary depending on how confident the group is and how quick they ride.

Day 1 - Arrive in Chiang Rai (Thailand) in the morning or early afternoon, depending on your flight schedule. We will visit the Rescue property in Chiang Rai, see the rescued girls creating jewellery and various items for sale. All products are for sale, so if you see something you like, please feel free to make a purchase. They make beautiful and meaningful gifts for the family back home! Dinner and ride briefing with the team. Sleep in a guest house overnight.

Day 2 - We ride to the Laos border. We depart early in the morning for our first day’s ride - between 5.5 hrs - 7 hrs ride to the boarder, depending on how fast the group is moving, on some amazing windy roads through the ranges east. Lunch on the border. Crossing the Laos border with a motorbike is a time consuming exercise. The Destiny Rescue Thailand team will have all documentation prepared for the government offices. This process will likely take several hours. (There are offices in each country, so your patience at this point is required and greatly appreciated).  We will then ride on to cross the Mekong River by ferry, and sleep in a guesthouse in a small, but quaint, riverside town called Pakbeng. The ride from the boarder to Pakbeng is another 1hr (including the ferry crossing).

Day 3 - Journey to Luang Probung. We will leave after breakfast (approximately 8am). This will be a fairly long day (around 7 - 8.5hrs riding), travelling through Laos countryside. However the road conditions changes dramatically as we enter the ranges. It is extremely rough and slow going. Lunch on the way. We should arrive in the European style river town of Luang Prabung by late afternoon to check in to our rooms. We can then hit the night markets, massage houses and restaurants that pepper the streets.

Day 4 - Spend a relaxing full day in Luang Probung. This will be free time, where you can put on your tourist cap. We will have set meeting times for meals, but you will largely have the liberty to explore or rest. This is a city bordering the Mekong river, and has several spectacular waterfalls worth visiting. There is also trekking, market shopping, longboat trips to remote Buddha Caves, & Whisky Town elephant rides available for the adventurous. We will also be visiting a local Pastor and his family who have linked with Destiny Rescue. We will take a brief tour of their ever-so-humble church and operation on the outskirts of town... (this visit is optional).

Day 5 & 6 - Ride to Veng Viang. We will leave after breakfast (approximately 8am). Veng Viang is only 217k’s south... but is a 6 hour ride on some of the best bike riding roads in Laos. We plan to check in at the guest houseby mid afternoon. Veng Viang is best known for its river based activities. Take a leisurely tube ride downstream or ride a zip line into the river if you dare. There are also numerous wooden platforms jutting out along the river banks for you to jump from. The entire Day 6 can be spent on the river or lazing by the pool.

Day 7 - We ride back to Luang Probung after a lazy late breakfast (approximately 10am).

Day 8 - Speedboat up the mighty Mekong River to Pakbeng. This is a fabulous way to see one of the world’s great rivers. We load the bikes onto a slow boat for a 9hr journey upriver, while we climb aboard the swift Laos speedboats for a 3hr joyride, arriving back in Pakbeng to relax. Enjoy a massage, take a walk through town, photograph local village life and even venture a dip in the Mekong - if you’re game!

Day 9 - Burma border town of Mai Sai. After an early breakfast, we will travel back over the Mekong by ferry and back to the Thailand border. Once across, we are off to the Burma border town of Mai Sai, where we overnight.

Day 10 - Burma. This is a day of markets and sightseeing. We will cross the border back into Thailand around lunchtime, eat lunch then ride back to Chiang Rai.

Day 11 - Back in Chiang Rai. In the morning we will ride to an elephant village where everyone can change gears and clamber aboard an elephant! After our final lunch together, each rider will catch an evening flight to Bangkok, then a connecting flight to their home country.
